Scatterday H - 23 Feb 2008

Here we are again, the week sure does fly past fast. Put your sunglasses on for this one if you don't want to throw up! For the life of me I could not think of or find a game that started with H that I could take a photo of so I've drawn one - okay I know my artistic abilites in this area leave something to be desired but you get the gist of it - don't you? I'd heard of Heliotrope the colour before but never realised it was this shade of pink - after I'd Googled it I remembered I had a t-shirt more or less the right shade so I dug it out and yes I could actually get into it, just! Currently I'm doing a challenge of taking a self portrait every day for the month of February so Thursday found me worrying the neighbours as to what on earth I was doing running backwards and forwards across my backyard in a Hot Pink t-shirt that was too small!

Haha don't I wish!

You Act Like You Are 32 Years Old

You are a thirtysomething at heart. You've had a taste of success and true love, but you want more!

You're responsible, wise, and have enough experience to understand a lot of the world.

You're at the point in your life where you understand yourself pretty well.

You are figuring out what you want... and how to get it!

Do you need a laugh?

Well do I have the website for you then. Thanks to a link on Lindi's blog I had a good laugh (and a bit of a fright) click here and after it's loaded in just wait awhile, it's all in Dutch but that doesn't matter, you'll love it.

Self Portrait - Day 22

Just a silly one of a reflection of my feet in a polished marble wall today!
And this one is of me trying to having a photo shoot with my granddaughters where we all ended up in fits of laughter while they tickled each other, Becky looks like she is about to pounce!

Sorry about the t-shirt! I needed a photo with that colour in it, you'll see why on Saturday.

Interesting website

I heard about the kiva.org website on one of Oprah's shows last week and thought I'd check it out. I quote from their webpage "Kiva lets you connect with and loan money to unique entrepreneurs in the developing world. By choosing a loan on Kiva, you can "sponsor a business" and help the world's working poor make great strides towards economic independence. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), you can receive email journal updates from the entrepreneur you've sponsored. As loans are repaid, you get your loan money back."
For the princely sum of $US25 I was able to help this man, Boihon Najmidinov in Tajikistan, with his bakery business. It will take him 10 months to pay his loan of $600 back. When it is paid back I can either get my money back or loan it on to someone else in need. I think it's an excellent idea and it seems to be working very well.

Boihon Najmidinov is 32 years old. He is married with two children. Boihon bakes the national bread which is called “lepeshka”. He has been in this business for 12 years already. His bakery is located in his house. As a rule Boihon bakes about 420 “lepeshkas” per day and sells them the same day. The “lepeshka” of Boihon are very popular in his neighborhood and his stable business generates the main income for the family. Now Boihon is planning to open another bakery, and he also needs to increase the working capital in order to purchase the input materials like flour, salt and coal. For this purpose he requests 600.00 US dollars for the term of 10 months. With the generated income Boihon plans to improve the living conditions of his family.

More self portraits!

How exciting are these? I set up the camera on the tripod and just kept on taking photos as I was hanging out the clothes today. I couldn't make up my mind which one to use so you get them both! Aren't you thrilled? You should be - you didn't get the one with the knickers!

Two Peas in a Pod

I have a lot of slides taken back in the 1960s when they were all the rage. I've now scanned them all and am trying to fix them in PhotoShop as they are not good. I found this cute one of Harry's father when he was about the same age, I could have sworn it was Harry! I'm sure I have a photo of Harry in the exact same pose but I can't find it at present so this one will do in the meantime.

Self Portrait - Day 20

Just a lazy one today, I have a nasty cold & my nose is all red! Lots of cups of tea & lemon drinks called for.

Self Portrait - Day 19

This is going to be my daily self portrait for tomorrow. I waited until DH came home from work and hijacked him before he had time to think! As you can see he doesn't like having his photo taken.

Another heritage photo

This is a new photograph just added to my collection, taken in 1911 it is of my maternal grandmother and her middle daughter Olive aged 15mths. Only a scan of a framed photo so it's a bit grainy but better than nothing.

Self portrait Day 18 - oh my, definately lots more walking needed!

17 February 2008

Another self portrait for today!

You're going to be sick of the sight of me by the end of the month - if you aren't already.

Self Portrait - Day 17

Oops caught in the act!

Dining (if you can call it that) at the Pizza Hut with the grand-daughters. I have a lovely red lump coming up on my forehead after walking straight into a head high glass shelf above the pizzas while bending over to get my plate! The wine did it's job though and we had a bit of fun with the girls.
After they went home I spent the evening looking at and trying to fix some very old slides I've had in the cupboard for nearly half a century - my goodness, that sounds old! The slide show below is some of them, thought you might like to have a few laughs to brighten your day.

A bit of light relief - me in the 1960s!
